VAN NESS SUBSTATION – 138 KV DISCONNECT SWITCH, GROUND SWITCH, AND SURGE ARRESTER REPLACEMENT
  • Modernization  of  existing  138  kV  disconnect  equipment  at  an  in- service urban Pepco substation
  • Replacement   required   a   mix   of   motor-operated   and   manually operated equipment with associated surge protection
  • Integration of new equipment into existing physical layouts, grounding systems, and Protection & Control infrastructure
  • Verification of existing structures for reuse while meeting Pepco SDM and IEEE requirements
  • Coordination of civil, structural, electrical, and P&C engineering under phased submittal constraints
  • Provided   complete   multi-discipline   engineering   for   disconnect switch and associated equipment replacement
  • Designed  installation  of  a  138  kV  Motor-Operated  Disconnect (MOD) switch with associated control and wiring
  • Engineered replacement of 138 kV manual ground switches and 84 kV MCOV line arresters
  • Performed  structural  evaluations  and  PE-stamped  calculations  to confirm adequacy of existing steel structures
  • Developed    demolition,    fabrication,    grounding,    raceway,    and equipment wiring drawings with BOMs
  • Produced   P&C   schematics,   AC/DC   elementary   diagrams,   and RTU/C30 status and control integration
  • Supported   QA/QC   reviews,   constructability   checks,   and   redline incorporation through IFC
  • Applied    precise    equipment    scoping    to    avoid overstatement and ensure technical accuracy
  • Delivered coordinated engineering across all disciplines, reducing interface risk during construction
  • Enabled   reliable   MOD   operation   and   monitoring through clean P&C and RTU integration
  • Minimized field rework through constructable, Pepco- compliant drawings and QA/QC oversight
  • Provided IFC and as-built documentation aligned with Pepco review and closeout standards
