Mid-Level Transmission Engineer 

Position Overview 

DST Engineers is seeking motivated Mid-Level Transmission Engineers to support utility, renewable energy, and power delivery projects across North America. The successful candidate will perform transmission line engineering, design, analysis, and project support activities while working closely with senior engineers and project managers. 

Opportunities are available for both Full-Time Employees and Independent 1099 Contractors. 

For contractor positions, preference will be given to U.S.-based professionals; however, highly qualified international candidates will also be considered. 

 

Experience Required 

  • 2–5 years of transmission engineering experience.

Electrical Design Engineer – Solar PV 

Position Summary 

The Electrical Design Engineer will support electrical design updates, drawing reviews, technical markups, and comment log preparation for distributed generation solar PV projects. This role will work under the direction of the Lead Electrical Engineer and support 30% design packages, EPC design reviews, and equipment submittal reviews. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Prepare or update 30% electrical single-line diagrams. 
  • Review preliminary single-line diagrams, design basis documents, and utility/interconnection requirements. 
  • Review EPC electrical drawings including AC/DC single-lines, grounding plans, cable schedules, site electrical layouts, and equipment details. 
  • Prepare drawing markups and technical comments. 
  • Support review of transformers, switchgear, recloser, inverter, combiner box, disconnect, and panelboard documents. 
  • Track open technical items and support comment log updates. 
  • Identify missing information, design conflicts, and potential constructability issues. 
  • Coordinate with document control and technical leads to preparing clean deliverables. 
  • Support internal QA/QC before comments are issued to the client. 

Required Qualifications

SCADA / DAS / Controls Review Engineer

 Position Summary 

The SCADA / DAS / Controls Review Engineer will review data acquisition, control, communication, and monitoring requirements for distributed generation solar PV projects. This role will focus on SCADA/DAS interfaces, I/O lists, communications, control wiring, monitoring points, and integration requirements between equipment and project systems. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Review SCADA/DAS requirements in EPC design packages. 
  • Review SCADA input/output lists, communication interfaces, monitoring points, and control diagrams. 
  • Review DAS, inverter, meter, recloser, switchgear, and transformer communication requirements. 
  • Identify missing control points, unclear interfaces, and design gaps. 
  • Review control wiring diagrams, communication architecture, and related equipment interfaces where provided. 
  • Support technical comments related to controls, monitoring, and operational visibility. 
  • Coordinate with electrical and interconnection reviewers to confirm control-related requirements. 
  • Support comment closure and EPC clarification responses. 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field. 
  • 7+ years of experience in SCADA, DAS, controls, communications, or power system automation. 
  • Experience reviewing, I/O lists, communication diagrams, control schematics, and monitoring system requirements. 
  • Familiarity with solar PV monitoring systems, utility SCADA, DAS, RTUs, meters, relays, and reclosers.

Construction-Phase Engineering Support Lead

Position Summary 

The Construction-Phase Engineering Support Lead will support technical review of RFIs, field changes, substitutions, and as-built updates during project construction. This role will provide engineering support to help resolve field issues while maintaining alignment with project requirements, approved designs, and long-term asset performance. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Review construction RFIs and provide technical responses or recommendations. 
  • Review EPC-proposed field changes and equipment substitutions. 
  • Review as-built updates from a technical standpoint.

The laboratory features a 30 kW Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) test bench utilizing the OPAL-RT 1400-60 real-time simulation platform, enabling comprehensive inverter testing, feeder electromagnetic transient (EMT) modeling, and utility protocol interoperability studies. 

The laboratory will support IEEE 1547.1 inverter conformance testing, DER hosting capacity  

 analysis, DERMS/SCADA integration, and advanced microgrid research initiatives. 

Position Summary   

The Grid Simulation Laboratory Manager/Intern will support the operation, maintenance, and   

ongoing research activities of the DLC Grid Simulation Laboratory. This role is essential for executing test procedures, managing laboratory equipment, supporting data analytics, and ensuring compliance with project deliverables and safety protocols. 

Core Responsibilities   

Laboratory Operations & Testing   

  • Support execution of Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) testing using the OPAL-RT 1400-60 platform

Project Manager – Substation & Transmission Projects

Position Summary 

DST Engineers LLC is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and support substation and transmission line engineering projects for U.S. utility, renewable energy, and power delivery clients. 

The Project Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, tracking, and delivering multiple engineering projects from project initiation through design, client review, construction support, and closeout. This role requires strong project management skills, familiarity with utility engineering workflows, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, and external stakeholders. 

The ideal candidate has experience managing substation, transmission, utility infrastructure, or renewable energy projects and can maintain project schedules, budgets, deliverables, risks, and client communication in a fast-paced environment. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Manage substation and transmission line engineering projects from initiation through completion. 
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, work plans, resource plans, deliverable trackers, and milestone reports. 
  • Coordinate internal engineering, design, drafting, QA/QC, and project controls teams.

  • Interface directly with utility clients, developers, EPC contractors, and project stakeholders. 
  • Support proposal development, technical scoping, and project planning activities. 
  • Participate in business development and client relationship management efforts. 

Team Development 

  • Mentor and train junior and mid-level engineers. 
  • Drive engineering best practices, quality initiatives, and design standardization efforts. 
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews and continuous improvement programs. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline. 
  • Strong knowledge of:  
  • NESC requirements 
  • Utility transmission design standards 
  • Structural loading principles 
  • Power delivery engineering practices 
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. 

Preferred Technical Skills 

Experience with one or more of the following: 

  • PLS-CADD 
  • PLS-POLE 
  • PLS-TOWER 
  • MFAD 
  • LPILE 
  • AutoCAD 
  • MicroStation 
  • ArcGIS 
  • Primavera P6 
  • Microsoft Project 

Preferred Experience 

  • Transmission voltages ranging from 34.5kV through 765kV. 
  • Renewable energy interconnection projects. 
  • Utility capital improvement programs. 
  • EPC and Owner’s Engineering projects. 
  • Substation-transmission coordination. 
  • Grid modernization, reliability, and resilience initiatives.
