Challenge
System Impact Re-evaluation for 60 MW Greenidge Load Under Evolving Grid Conditions:
Post-initial SIS, changes in NYISO transmission topology and load/generation profiles required verification of thermal/voltage violations at Bus 134850 (Greenidge).
Critical unknowns included contingency performance (N-1/N-2) on adjacent branches/transformers using NYSEG’s existing SIS contingency deck and voltage stability under revised profiles—excluding dynamic effects.
Action
Dual-Scenario Modeling:
Base Case: NYSEG-supplied power flow case (retaining retired 106 MW Greenidge generator for auxiliary consistency).
Project Case: Integration of 60 MW load at Bus 134850 using updated NYSEG load/generation profiles.
Violation Analysis:
Screened N-1/N-2 contingencies (3–4 bus perimeter from existing SIS deck).
Monitored thermal limits (lines/transformers) and voltage deviations within NYSEG-defined subsystem boundaries.
Model Integrity:
Validated swing bus stability (minimal load impact) and excluded dynamics/redispatch per scope.
DST Value Addition
Quantified thermal overloads (specific branch IDs) and voltage excursions (bus levels) under N-1/N-2 events.
Compared base vs. project cases: Identified loading deltas (>90% critical branches) and voltage drop thresholds.
